The Trinity Or The Godhead

A SPECIAL IMPORTANT NOTE DEALING WITH WORD USAGE

All scriptures on this site are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible

The Word Trinity doesn't appear in the Bible in any place from Genesis through the closing chapter of Revelation. The word "Godhead" appears three times in scripture. While a Trinity is implied by multiple scriptures the proper name for the Father, Son and Holy Ghost should be expressed as a Godhead - not a trinity. This disassociates the Christian Godhead from other religious trinities and completely destroys the arguments of those who try to destroy the plurality that is in God from the beginning (Elohim in Genesis 1:1). They foolishly compare the heathen trinities with the Godhead using the word trinity as their point of inference to say the "Christian Trinity" is only one of many.

THE THREE SCRIPTURES THAT SPEAK OF THE GODHEAD IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

Acts 17:29 - "For as much then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. This is a direct refutation of those who worship statues including the Catholic statues of Mary and the saints.

Romans 1:20 - "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." Here God has revealed himself by putting the knowledge in every person born.

Colossians 2:9 - "For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. This is speaking of Jesus who came as God in a human body being the complete representation of God visible to all mankind while retaining his deity. He is the God/man.

The Trinity or Godhead

Definition: The unity of three persons in one Godhead; Father, Son and Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit

This designates four facts. First, The Father is God Second, The Son is God Third, The Holy Spirit is God Fourth, There is one God.

Incorrect Concepts Of The Trinity or Godhead

Tritheism which is the worship of three Gods

Sabellianism which teaches that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are only manifestations of God. This would infer that the three members of the Godhead are mere pictures that show God.

A safeguard against error is to realize that we can be deceived. No man has all the truth on any subject at any time. The only authority for any doctrine which can be fully believed is God's word illuminated by the Holy Spirit.

Scriptures stating that there is only one God

Deuteronomy 4:35 and Deuteronomy 4:392 Samuel 7:221 Kings 8:601 Chronicles 17:20John 17:31 Corinthians 8:4-6 and Galatians 3:20.

Scriptures Indicating More Than One God

Genesis 1:26Genesis 3:22Genesis 11:7John 17:31 Corinthians 8:4-6 and Galatians 3:20.

ATTRIBUTES SUBSCRIBED TO THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT

Eternity - The Father - Deuteronomy 33:27 - Son - John 1:1 - Holy Spirit - Hebrews 9:14

Creation - The Father - Genesis 1 and 2 - Son - John 1:3-10 and Colossians 1:16-18 - Holy Spirit Genesis 1:2Job 26:13 and Job 33:4

Omniscience - The Father - Job 34:21 and 1 John 3:20 - Son - John 16:30 and Colossians 2:3 Holy Spirit - John 16:12-13 and 1 Corinthians 2:10-11

Omnipotence- The Father - Isaiah 43:13 and Luke 1:37, Son - Matthew 28:18Hebrews 1:3 and Colossians 1:16-18 - The Holy Spirit - To the best of my knowledge there is not a scripture in the Bible stating that the Holy Spirit is Omnipotent, however, it stands to reason that since the three members of the Godhead are co-equal in all things, this omission of Omnipotence doesn't constitute and insurmountable issue for those who are honest scholars and understand logical thinking.

Omnipresence - The Father - Proverbs 15:3 and Jeremiah 23:24 - Son - Matthew 28:20 - Holy Spirit - Psalms 139:7-10

SPECIAL NOTES - Jesus is called God in Isaiah 9:6John 1:1 coupled with John 1:14 and in Hebrews 1:8. In addition The Holy Spirit is called God in Acts 5:3-4. Further God is called the Father in John 6:27 and 1 Peter 1:2.

A Triune Universe

We live in a triune universe consisting of the following examples:

1. The universe consists of space, time and matter.

2. Space consists of length, width and height.

3. Matter consists of energy, motion and phenomena.

4. Time consists of past, present and future.

5. The Sun consists of light, heat and power.

6. Man is comprised of body, soul and spirit.

7. Man is also primary self, personality and nature.

8. Personality is composed of intellect, affections and will.

9. Mind is composed of judgment, imagination and memory.

Trinities in religions of the world

1. Hinduism - Brahma, the supreme source, Vishna, the mediator and Shiva, the destroyer

2. The Persian Triad - Oromosdas, Father, Mithras, Mediator and Arimanius, Psyche

3. The Egyptians - Osiris, the light, Creph, Fire and Phtha, Spirit

4. Chinese Peruvians - Father Sun, Son Sun and Brother Sun

5. Others for you to research - Japanese Theology and The Chaldee Paraphrasts

Conclusion: Since the doctrine of the Godhead is true as proven in this study then worship should rightly be given to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  If it were not true then worship of the Son and Holy Spirit would be idolatrous. It is up to us to decide for ourselves based on evidence as to how we should worship.
