Benny Hinn - Word Of Faith Televangelist
Benny Hinn was born on December 3, 1952, in the port city of Jaffa (part of modern Tel Aviv), Israel, where his family had set up residence as immigrants to Palestine from Greece. In 1968, not long after the Six-Day War, he moved with his family to Canada. In February 1972 Benny Hinn’s life took on an entirely new meaning when he surrendered his heart and life to Jesus Christ as high school friends prayed with him. Soon afterward, he was called to minister the Gospel. In April 1974, young Benny received a vision of people falling into a roaring inferno and heard the words: “If you do not preach, every soul who falls will be your responsibility!” On December 7, 1974, four days after his 22nd birthday, Benny Hinn first stood behind a pulpit to preach the Gospel—his stuttering problem suddenly healed. From that moment, he would fearlessly seek to fulfill our Lord’s Great Commission.
The first thing that I noticed here was that Benny Hinn had a “vision” two years and two months into his Christian life. The vision told Benny that if he didn't preach, every soul who fell would be his responsibility. That is a very striking proclamation and reminds me of another young man who had a vision and started Mormonism. His claim to have had a visit with God, Jesus and an Angel was astounding as well. There is one problem with this from a scriptural standpoint especially since Mr. Hinn declares himself to be a bishop.
1 Timothy 3:1-6 states; “ This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity, for if a man know not how to rule his own house how shall he take care of the church of God? Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.”
Let's begin with verse 6. “Not a novice.” I hardly think that 2 years and 2 months of being a Christian would qualify a man for such a high calling from the Lord, especially if he was a very impressionable young man new to the faith. I am sure there are exceptions to the rule but in this case the fruit of his life will explain my skepticism. The latter part of that verse speaks of being lifted up with pride. Having quite a battle in that area my entire 45 years as a Christian I can see how easy it would be for a young man to take something he believes he heard from God and run with it especially in the light of the message he received; “If you do not preach, every soul who falls will be your responsibility.” What a heady thought. Not if God's ministers don't preach, but
if YOU don't preach. If there was ever an appeal to pride, that would have to rank up there! Suddenly Mr. Hinn becomes an indispensable savior in the lives of any who might fall. Wow! I don't think he understood the ramifications of what he thought he was hearing or what the spirit
of the enemy was telling him. Every soul was to be his portion of the responsibility. That's a lot
of responsibility! Many great, seasoned ministers have fallen under less weight than that, but Benny Hinn was to be one exception and at such a young age and so early in his Christian life. I am certain it was not the voice of God he listened to.
While Mr. Hinn has ministered to a large amount of people over the years, there are some things in the other verses that must be addressed in his life and ministry. I will examine what I know about Mr. Hinn taking the beginning of this series of verses through the fifth verse above.
I have no doubt that Benny Hinn desired a good work at the beginning of his Christian life. After that his claim to ministry begins to fall apart. Blameless? Mr. Hinn's well known affair with Paula White eliminates that. Even though he is the husband of one wife; he has been found guilty of cheating on that wife. When the church used to deal with discipline he'd have been disqualified for a period of time and called to repentance by those in authority over him. However, I don't believe that ever happened to my knowledge.
Sober and of Good Behavior? I don't know enough about Mr. Hinn's life to know whether he uses alcoholic beverages including wine or not, but his behavior is anything but godly when he tells people that he has been seeking scripture that would justify him killing those who oppose
him and come against his ministry. There is no way in the world that comment can be justified in the sight of God. Further, he was caught on video telling thousands of people that they were little “gods.”The Godhead is closed, always has been and always will be. There are no little gods; only false gods and idols of unbelievers. This teaching is blatantly against the word of God and inexcusable at every level.
A really big breach of scripture would involve being greedy of filthy lucre (money or material gain). There are plenty of very obvious videos available showing the extravagant spending habits of Mr. Hinn that prove his love of money (the root of all evil) and the love of amassing the wealth
of this world for himself. The saddest part of all that is the people who sacrifice to give to his “ministry” for the spreading of the gospel while he lives luxuriously and spends their hard earned money on himself. While the Son of God had “nowhere to lay his head” this man is rich beyond any of those who follow him and always wanting more. There isn't a meeting of his that doesn't reek with requests for more and more giving, and the amount he spends on ministry compared to what he spends on himself is extremely disproportionate. The Bible is once again very clear; “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also. Sadly there are many people who support this charlatan and even think he deserves to live an opulent lifestyle while he fleeces the flock of God and leads people on a merry chase for perfect health, wealth and prosperity. I believe this is possible because many Christians in this generation are ignorant of what the scriptures teach.
One side note: I watched this man's wife doing some sort of presentation that was meant to be speaking for God and she blasphemed the Spirit of the Living God by comparing him to an enema. Her exact words were; “I believe Christians need a Holy Ghost enema.” In all my years as a Christian I have never heard such a filthy remark flow from the mouth of a preacher's wife in a pulpit. I believe the wife is called to be in subjection to her husband in scripture, but Mr. Hinn never corrected her privately in a way that caused her to come out and apologize for her actions, or rebuked her openly for her horrible blasphemy against God. Where was he when this was allowed to happen? Who better to deal with this issue, but he was either in agreement with her or he didn't want to deal with it for some reason. Whatever the case may be, there is no excuse for that to go without correction. If he doesn't think that is a reflection of his own walk with God, he is miserably mistaken.
There has been much videotaped and much written about this man and his “ministry” accessible online for the reader of this article to find and examine to determine the credibility of the writer's claims and/or the credibility of Mr. Hinn's ministerial claims.
I find no joy in preparing this article. I personally pray for Mr. Hinn that, if he has not already
gone beyond repentance and restoration, that God would bring him to his knees in humility and repentance and turn him around and use him for his glory! I find no joy of any kind in thinking
that Mr. Hinn would be deceived through his entire life and eternally damned.
Matthew 7:22-23 KJV - “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in they name, and in thy name have cast out devils, and in they name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me ye that work iniquity.”

A Small Oblation
I do not minister for money,
But somehow it seems
kind of funny,
That those who let
me build this site,
Somehow feel that it's alright,
For me to pay a monthly fee,
To offer all this stuff to thee,
So if you'd show appreciation
Kindly leave a small oblation.
